Guest speakers
Chris Blado, Americorps Intern
Victoria Andrews, Kent City Parks
Chris Blado is an intern with Americorps working with “Green Kent,” a partnership of the City of Kent and the Cascade Land Conservancy.
Victoria Andrews is Volunteer Recruiter and Coordinator with the City Parks Department.
Chris gave a presentation on the activities of Green Kent. These include efforts to eradicate noxious weeds. For example, workers cut the bottom of English ivy climbing up trees so that it won’t kill the trees.
Chris followed up with an email listing the five most noxious weeds in Kent. They are:
- Himalayan and evergreen blackberry
- Reed canary grass
- English ivy
- Scotch broom
- English holly
He also provided this link to King County’s noxious weed website:
