Demolition of unfinished parking garage to begin Monday, October 3

Demolition of the unfinished parking garage at Kent City Center will begin Monday, October 3 at 11 a.m.

Tearing down the structure will make way for the construction of a five story, mixed-use development consisting of approximately 164 urban style apartments with 3,700 square feet of retail space and public parking.

At its September 20 meeting, the Kent City Council approved the sale of the property to Goodman Real Estate, Inc. of Seattle.

According to Brad Reisinger, Project Manager with Goodman Real Estate, demolition of the parking garage is expected to be completed within 10 days. “After the demolition, we should have the site cleared by the end of October.”

During next week’s demolition, work will continue daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sidewalk and one lane on the east side of Fourth Avenue will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday; and the sidewalk and one lane on the south side of Smith Street will be closed Wednesday through Friday.

Rhine Demolition of Tacoma, the same contractor slated to remove the Alaskan Way Viaduct, will do the work.

Questions about the demolition should be directed to Brad Reisinger at 206-448-0259.
