Want to have a garden but don’t have the space for it? Take advantage of the city’s P-patch program, which allows residents to rent a plot of land for organic community gardening.
Kent’s downtown Community Garden P-patch will be accepting pre-registration applications for returning gardeners from Feb. 27 to March 9. New gardener registration begins March 12 and requires a $25 refundable deposit. Gardeners may register by calling the Kent Commons at 253-856-5000 or stop by in person to 525 4th Avenue S.
There are 44 plots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Gardeners may rent a 20’ by 20’ plot for a $40 water fee.
Kent’s downtown Community Garden P-patch season runs April 1 through Sept. 30 on the corner of James St. and 64th Avenue S.
The P-patch program has been offering organic community gardening since 1997. The program is a collaborative effort between the city of Kent and The Bishop’s Storehouse, an extension of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. For more information, call 253-856-5110.
